Bhupender Dhawan-THE GYM
Mr. Bhupender Dhawan studied in Hans Raj College at Delhi University. He was awarded the most strongly desired “Dronacharya” sports award in 2000 by the President of India K.R. Naryanan in the field of Power Lifting. Dronacharya Award is given to outstanding coaches in sports and games. He even quit his job in 2008 as a Sub-Inspector just to continue as a coach in Power lifting. He did his Sports Psychology Diploma from Spain. He also worked as General Secretary of All India Association of Dronacharya Awardees and General Secretary of Indian Gym Federation.
Mr. Dhawan always wanted to provide health services and to create international level sportspersons. So, he founded “THE GYM” in 1990 with blessings of Shri L.K. Das (Two time Olympian & amp; Arjuna Awardee), Shri Baldev Raj Sharma (National Champion) and Shri Subrata Dutta (Arjuna Awardee). THE GYM has its first branch in the North Campus of Delhi University. THE GYM has produced many world class players who have performed well in various international level championships, Commonweath Game and Asian Championships. People from this gym have also shown their excellence in modelling’.
Glory of Bhupender dhawan “THE GYM”
a) In 1992-93, the first from THE GYM to participate in Junior National Powerlifting Championship were Anu Dhawan and Akshay Dutt.
b) Surender Gogi, Manish Sikri, Daya Chand Satnam and Narender Kumar represented State Body Building Team in Junior National Body Building Championship held at Madras in 1994. Daya Chand was the first to bring Gold medal in Delhi State Powerligting Championship in 1994. He also won Gold medal in All India University Powerlifting Championship held at Gurukul Kangri University, Hardwar in 1995.
c) Pramod Singh Tivetia in 1996 won Gold medal at the Asian Powerlifting Championship.
d) Prem Bahadur in 1995 was the first to win Mr. Delhi title in Body Buiding.
e) In 1998, Anil Sharma and Narender Solanki won Silver Medal in Spanish Open International Powerlifting Championship for Disabled held at Valencia, Spain.
f) In 2000, Dinesh Singh Aswal won first Mr. India and Mr. South Asia tite. He also won Gold medal in Commonwealth Games in 2002. After 2004 many players and models were created from THE GYM.
g) Mukesh Singh became Mr.India in 2008. He won Gold medal in the South Asia Body Building championship while Virender Malhan won bronze medal in the same.
h) Mukesh Singh and Gaurav Sharma won gold medal in the world powerlifting championship in 2017. All these person added glory to THE GYM.
Now Dronacharya Bhupender dhawan is not only “dronacharya” but has also gained a new title of “hall of fame award”
